# Table formatting

Hi

Is is possible to perform any formatting on a hv table in terms of colouring the cells or columns. Or say the colour of the column names?

Would also like to know this! I know it’s possible with plotly. So, you could just serve a plotly table with panel. But I’d also like to do it with Holoviews.

I can contribute my little knowledge.

- The table is built on SlickGrid. You can take a look at the [examples](https://slickgrid.net/Index.html)([https://github.com/6pac/SlickGrid/wiki/Examples](https://github.com/6pac/SlickGrid/wiki/Examples)) to see what in theory could be possible.
- I believe (hypothesis) that the table is a Panel DataFrame. If you take a look at the [guide](https://panel.holoviz.org/reference/widgets/DataFrame.html) you can see that you can specify some `editors` and `formatters`. I guess you might be able to access that object and change it.
- If you would like to style the Table differently it is possible. I’ve done it (in Panel) via CSS to support a Dark Themed, Material Design app. You can find the default css here [https://github.com/mleibman/SlickGrid/blob/master/slick-default-theme.css](https://github.com/mleibman/SlickGrid/blob/master/slick-default-theme.css).

An alternative if your tables are small and you don’t need interactivity is to use [Pandas Styling](https://pandas.pydata.org/pandas-docs/stable/user_guide/style.html).

I would also like to know how this could be done “easily”. For example the Plotly tables can be “easily” styled. [https://plotly.com/python/table/](https://plotly.com/python/table/)

Fyi. I’ve added an alternative data grid to the awesome-panel-extensions package. It might also be an option.
